What are you doing these days?

My new song has released. It is called Zara Dil Khol Ke Jeene De. I have sung and composed this song. Astha and Jigyasa, the new writers have written the lyrics. I did my schooling in a boarding school in Panchgani and the school has completed 100 years of establishment. So, I have dedicated this song to my school on its 100th anniversary. The song has also been picturized in Panchagni, in the streets and campus where I lived for 5 years and completed my schooling.

How spontaneous are you in life?

I am not very spontaneous. I plan my actions. As one grows older and goes through several phases, the spontaneity decreases. Life is a journey and sailing through it successfully is a big achievement. I find myself fortunate when I look back at my journey and my progress. I started from zero. So I feel happy where I am today.

Are you selective about your projects these days? Do you prefer to work less or do you think that there’s a lot more to do and achieve?

I am a workaholic person. I like working on music. I want to do a lot of work. I don’t sit and count that I have created music for Mohabbatein, DDLJ etc. It’s good that I created music for those films and people liked it. But I prefer to look ahead.

Are your sons keen on carrying your musical legacy forward?

Both my sons are very talented. They have been learning music since childhood. They both are prolific musicians and they can play almost every instrument. My new film Binni And Baba is coming in February which has been entirely shot in England. One song of that film has been created by them. I asked them to take credit for that song but they refused and wanted it to release under my name. They said that they want to work independently.

I am enjoying this new phase where they have become prolific musicians and are adding new energy to my music. I am a very accepting kind of musician. I accept ideas.

How is your life after split with brother Jatin Pandit?

Individually I have completed 27 films which also includes Munni Badnam that won several awards. I would say, I am very happy with the way things have moved for me.
