The Lord Of The Rings star's co-actor Barbara Dickson shared the news of his sad demise on social media.

Veteran Hollywood actor Bernard Hill, popular for playing Captain Edward John Smith in the 1997 movie Titanic, passes away at the age of 79. The depressing news was shared on social media by his co-star Barbara Dickson, who had previously starred alongside Bernard Hill in a movie. His family is anticipated to make a statement shortly.

Announcing the sorrow news on X (formerly known as Twitter), Barbara Dickson wrote, “It’s with great sadness that I note the death of Bernard Hill. We worked together in John Paul George Ringo and Bert, Willy Russell’s marvelous show 1974-1975. A truly remarkable actor. It was an honor to have crossed paths with him. RIP Benny x (sic).”

Fans flooded the internet with condolences after learning of Hill’s passing. His versatility was highly praised by many, who pointed out that he could move between complex characters such as Yosser Hughes, the working-class protagonist in the trailblazing British miniseries ‘Boys from the Blackstuff,’ and dramatic historical figures with ease.

In a career spanning over fifty years, Hill played a wide range of parts in theatre, television and movies. With The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King and Titanic, he is the only actor to have been in two films that together took home an unprecedented eleven Academy Awards.

In addition to Titanic and The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, some of Bernard Hill’s other well-known works are The League of Gentlemen’s Apocalypse, The Scorpion King, The Boys from County Clare, Gothika, Wimbledon, Exodus, Valkyrie, Interlude City and Second Chance.
