Eminem, the iconic rapper known as the “real Slim Shady,” is pushing back against Real Housewives of Potomac stars Gizelle Bryant and Robyn Dixon’s legal pursuit. In a recent development, the 51-year-old artist filed for a protective order on December 15 in the continuing trademark dispute over the Reasonably Shady podcast, as confirmed by documents obtained by PEOPLE.
The filing highlighted Eminem, whose legal name is Marshall Mathers III, opposing the reality stars’ late October request for his personal appearance during a deposition. Citing the burdensome nature of the request, Eminem emphasized his limited knowledge of the case’s subjects.
As the holder of trademarks associated with the Slim Shady and Shady aliases, extensively used in his merchandise and music, Eminem explained that his deposition would be inconvenient due to his restricted understanding of the contested matters. Instead, he proposed three alternate names, notably his longtime manager Paul Rosenberg, possessing superior knowledge on the pertinent topics, to represent him during the deposition.
The legal documents further contended that Bryant, 53, and Dixon, 44, prematurely filed the motion, deeming it procedurally improper. It was argued that they had yet to formally serve Eminem, who initially opposed their trademark application in February 2023.
The ongoing legal tussle continues to unfold as Eminem takes measures to protect his trademarks and navigate this trademark dispute with the reality TV personalities.
