Rekha Opens Up on Her Absence from Films Since 2014, Reveals Her Perspective

Veteran Actress Rekha Shares Insights on Choosing Projects

Rekha, the legendary Bollywood actress who captivated audiences for decades, has been noticeably absent from full-length feature films since 2014. While she continues to make public appearances, her fans eagerly await her return in significant roles.

Finally breaking her silence on her prolonged hiatus, Rekha revealed in an interview with a leading international magazine the reason behind her decision. She expressed, “Whether I make films or not, it never leaves me. I have my memories to relive what I love. And when the time is right, the right project will find me. My personal journey is my own, but my cinematic persona is perceived through the eyes of the beholder. Therefore, I choose where I want to be and where I don’t want to be. I feel blessed to have earned the privilege to select what I truly love. And sometimes, the luxury of simply saying no.”

When questioned if love for someone or something fades over time, Rekha responded, “No. Once the relationship is established, it is forever. Sometimes we may crave more, while other times, what we have is enough. This concept applies to my craft. I was born with an instinct for the endurance of beauty. True, I was born to actors, but it is my insatiable thirst for knowledge and my willingness to embrace beauty with positivity rather than negativity that empowers me in my craft. Every day, I feel like a newcomer. And I trust those who exhibit the same level of dedication that I do.”

Rekha embarked on her journey in the entertainment industry as a child actor, starring in Telugu films like “Inti Guttu” (1958) and “Rangula Ratnam” (1966). She then ventured into Hindi cinema, marking her debut with the film “Sawan Bhadon” in 1970. While she has had an illustrious career spanning decades, her last full-length film was “Super Nani.”
