Hrithik Roshan Recalls A Time When Someone Close To His Father, Rakesh Roshan, Advised Not To Launch Him With ‘Kaho Na… Pyaar Hai’

Someone Close To Rakesh Roshan Advised Him Not To Make 'Kaho Na… Pyaar Hai'

Hrithik Roshan remembers a moment when someone close to his father, Rakesh Roshan, advised against making the movie “Kaho Na… Pyaar Hai,” which came out in 2000. This person suggested that the film shouldn’t be Hrithik’s first movie.

“In my first film, ‘Kaho Na Pyaar Hai,’ I won’t reveal who it was, but someone told my dad not to produce this film for various reasons. They thought it shouldn’t be my first movie. At the beginning, I kind of agreed a little. This was before we started filming, before everything was ready. We still had the script. But after that conversation, my dad became even more determined to bring this film to life. He believed deeply in this project and was determined to make it,” the actor shared in an interview with Film Companion.

Hrithik went on to elaborate on his father’s perspective, saying, “He’s really strong inside. He’s certain when he decides something. When he asks his colleagues or my friends for advice, it’s just to gather different opinions. He’s genuinely interested in hearing what others think. This process either gives him more confidence with positive feedback or, even in the face of criticism, makes him stronger. He gains something either way. It’s a truly admirable quality to have. It all depends on how confident you are as a person and as a filmmaker.”

“Kaho Na… Pyaar Hai” featured Hrithik alongside Ameesha Patel, who also made her acting debut in the film. Directed by Rakesh Roshan, the movie turned out to be a massive success at the box office, establishing itself as a blockbuster hit.

Hrithik had told Galatta Plus. “My father told me time and time again, ‘I’m not going to make a film for you, you’re on your own’. So, I was doing screen tests, I did a couple of them, I was looking for work… When he heard that I was doing screen tests, and was getting offers, maybe he sat down one day and thought, ‘Yeh kya ho raha hai (What is this happening), am I losing out?’”

“That, and he was making a film at that time with Shah Rukh [Khan] or Aamir [Khan] which fell through. And he had another thought, and while he was working on the scripting of that film with all the writers — and I was a part of this process — some weeks into it, everyone started feeling that this film needs a new boy or new girl. You have seen big stars do these roles, and even I was a part of that, that noise. Even I was like, ‘Yes, papa, I don’t want to see Shah Rukh do this’. And, when this got very repetitive, he said, ‘That’s not what I had in mind, I’m taking you in the film’.”

Hrithik was last seen in the film Vikram Vedha (2022), which also featured Saif Ali Khan and Radhika Apte.
