Tamannaah Bhatia Opens Up About Toxic Masculinity In South Movies

Popular Telugu actress Tamannaah Bhatia fearlessly talks about the toxic masculinity in south movies.

Tamannaah Bhatia, the versatile actor known for her roles in Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi cinema, has never shied away from speaking her mind. In a recent interview with Filmfare, she got candid about her experiences in the industry, particularly addressing the issue of toxic masculinity in South movies.

With a career that spans over 17 years and a diverse filmography, Tamannaah has certainly seen it all. From her debut in 2005 with “Chand Sa Roshan Chehra” to sharing the screen with legends like Rajinikanth and Prabhas, her journey has been nothing short of remarkable.

One of the key points she raised was the prevalence of toxic masculinity in certain South movies. When asked about her take on this issue, Tamannaah didn’t hold back. She told Filmfare, “In the south, certain formulas are used because they are easy. In certain commercial films, I couldn’t relate to my characters and would request that the filmmaker lower the intensity. Having said that, I came to a point where I stopped doing those parts. I started making a conscious effort not to be part of such films where toxic masculinity is celebrated to the point where it is almost intolerable.”

Tamannaah’s journey hasn’t been without its challenges, especially when transitioning to Bollywood. When asked about the difference in success between the South Indian and Hindi film industries, she responded with grace. “The films I made here (Bollywood) didn’t work because it was their destiny. I never took it as a personal failure because a movie is made with a lot of people contributing to it. That way, I am a bit detached from both my successes and failures. I don’t take either seriously. I am alive. I am here. That’s how I look at it. After 17 years, I still wake up every day wanting to do it over and over again. Acting is my passion. I wake up to face the camera. It excites me the most.”

Indeed, Tamannaah’s dedication to her craft remains unwavering, and her recent success in “Jailer,” which grossed over ₹650 crore worldwide, is a testament to her talent and hard work. Moreover, her latest OTT releases “Lust Stories 2” and “Jee Karda” also created quite a buzz amongst the audience. With upcoming projects like “Bandra,” “Aranmai 4,” and “Vedaa,” fans can look forward to seeing more of this talented actor on the big screen.
