Maidaan Box Office Collection Day 1: Film Starts Strong But Falls Short Of Expectations

Ajay Devgn starrer sports-drama, "Maidaan" took a strong start at the box office, but the film failed to exceed the expected opening day figures.

MaidaanBoxOffice: Directed by Amit Sharma, the long-awaited Bollywood biographical sports drama “Maidaan” finally hit theaters on April 11. Featuring Ajay Devgn, the film garnered praise and positive reviews from both audiences and critics alike. However, despite the favorable response, it fell short of the high expectations and did not achieve a remarkable opening at the box office.

Despite the prime Eid holiday release and positive reviews, the box office performance of Ajay Devgn starrer “Maidaan” on its first day fell short of fans’ expectations. The film faced difficulties in attracting audiences on its opening day. “Maidaan” had early paid previews on Wednesday, accumulating Rs 2.6 crore, followed by its full release on April 11, Eid, with estimated earnings of only Rs 4.50 crore, according to Sacnilk. Consequently, the total earnings for the first day amounted to Rs 7.10 crore.

Maidaan’s opening day collection is nearly 50% lower than Ajay Devgn’s recent releases like his supernatural thriller “Shaitaan” which made approx. Rs 14.75 crore last month on its opening day, “Drishyam 2” which earned Rs 15.38 crore on day one. Additionally, his action film “Bholaa,” released in March last year, opened with Rs 11.20 crore. The only film with lower opening numbers than “Maidaan” was his Eid 2022 release, “Runway 34,” which earned Rs 3 crore.

For the unversed, Maidaan has reportedly been made on a budget of approx. Rs 250 cr. The film faced tough competition with Akshay Kumar’s film, “Bade Miyan Chote Miyan” which was also released on the same day, 11 April. However, both films are expected to see further growth during the upcoming weekend. If all goes well both the films can easily cross the 20-25Cr mark by the end of Sunday.

The film’s narrative takes inspiration from Syed Abdul Rahim, the renowned coach and manager of the Indian national football team, celebrated as the driving force behind Indian football’s golden era between 1952 and 1962. Ajay Devgn portrays the character based on Rahim on screen, depicting the coach’s relentless dedication as he strives to excel.

Helmed by Amit Sharma, Maidaan is a biographical sports drama film starring Ajay Devgn in the lead role alongside “The Family Man” fame actress Priyamani as the female lead. Apart from them the film also stars Gajraj Rao, Nitanshi Goel, Chaitanya Sharma, Tejas Ravishankar, Abhilash Thapliyal, Davinder Gill, and Amartya Ray in significant roles.
