Anne Hathaway Talks About Breaking The Ice In Romantic Scenes: ‘Be Vulnerable With Each Other’

The Idea Of You actress elaborates upon how she performed her romantic scenes with co-star Nicholas Galitzine in their upcoming love-tale.

Anne Hathaway has never shied away from discussing her work experiences. The Academy Award winning actress, who won praise for her most recent film, The Idea of You, offered some advice on how to break the ice in a romantic scene. In a recent interview with India Today, she shared her opinions on how to handle love sequences.

Hathaway emphasized the significance of connecting with your co-actor and being vulnerable. Speaking about her co-star in The Idea of You, Nicholas Galitzine, she stated, “I think it’s just about trying to connect and be vulnerable with each other. It’s hard to force vulnerability, but like the way we did it, we were lucky. Nick was amazing because, once he was cast, he was really proactive about, ‘Can I text you?’ He just showed up with some icebreaker questions. Like, ‘What’s your favorite food? What will your last meal be? Are you noticing a pattern? Do you know that I’m Greek?’ There’s more of a statement than a fact.”

The actress added, “And then, showing each other care and curiosity. I think that kind of let each of us know who the other person was and who we were dealing with. That helped in opening up, as much as knowing that Nick’s last meal involves octopus.”

For the unversed the film is based on Robinne Lee’s 2017 novel of the same name, which centers on a 40-year-old single mother (played by Anne) who develops feelings for Nicholas Galitzine’s character, a 24-year-old international music sensation. The rom-com tale is slated to premiere at Amazon Prime Video from May 2nd, 2024.
