Supermodel Gigi Hadid has recently spoken out on Instagram, addressing what she described as an “evil and disturbing” narrative surrounding the Israel-Palestine conflict. Amidst a flurry of celebrity voices aligning with either Israel or Palestine, Gigi, along with her younger sister Bella Hadid, has consistently shown support for Palestine. On November 25, the supermodel shared another impactful statement on her Instagram profile.
“Israel silences dissent by labeling Palestinians, supporters as terrorists,” stated Hadid.
In her social media story, the 28-year-old emphasized, “Israel sees any Palestinian as a “terrorist,” Any person supporting Palestinian rights as an “antisemite,” and any Jew that is opposed to the government’s actions as self-hating”
Highlighting the perceived one-sidedness of the conflict’s narrative, the celebrity added, “They even pressure individuals to renounce their Judaism. So, everyone but Israel is lying and wrong?!! If it weren’t so malevolent and unsettling, it would be almost comical.”
For context, Bella Hadid and Gigi Hadid have strong connections to Palestine. Their father, Mohamed Anwar Hadid, was born into a Palestinian Muslim family in 1948. Meanwhile, Gigi’s mother, Yolanda Foster, is a former supermodel and reality TV personality.
Over the past months, numerous Hollywood celebrities—such as Reese Witherspoon, Madonna, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Barbara Streisand, Jerry Seinfeld, Selma Blair, Natalie Portman, Justin Bieber, Gal Gadot, Josh Gad—have spoken about this pressing issue.
