Ed Sheeran Says He Will Quit Music If Found Guilty In A Copyright Trial

Ed Sheeran has been accused of copying Marvin Gaye's song "Let's Get It Out" for his 2014 hit "Thinking Out Loud."

English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has said he will quit music if he is found guilty of copying his hit song ‘Thinking Out Loud’, according to reports. The lawsuit was filed 32 years ago by the songwriter Ed Townsend, who released the classic Let’s Get It On with Marvin Gaye in 1973.

Sheeran has been accused of copying the song, but he denies the allegation. Wred said he found the allegations really insulting. During the hearing in court on Monday, the musician said that he was not gone. Ed Townsend’s daughter, Katherine Townsend Griffin, claims that Mr. Sheeran copied the iconic tune during the making of his single Thinking Out Loud, which went to number one.

Griffin claimed that the two tracks, as well as the common, similar elements between the two tracks, infringed his copyright, according to UK-based entertainment website Joe.

Mr. Townsend’s heirs are seeking $100 million for plagiarism issues.

But Mr. Shriran said that he and other artists often do such mash-ups, and added Thinking Out Loud to Van Morrison’s Crazy Love and Dolly Parton’s I Will Always Love You on other occasions.

He has also said that a special witness for the heirs, in converting their song, and transcribing his song, was changed to create chords and melodies similar to Letts’ songs.

If Ed Sheeran is found liable, there will be a second trial to determine the amount.
