Barbie 2: Margot Robbie Shuts Down Rumors About Sequel

Margot Robbie revealed that there won't be a sequel for her blockbuster film Barbie, the actress revealed that they never planned to create a trilogy.

After the blockbuster success of Hollywood film, Barbie many fans have been expecting a sequel of the film. However, the reports and rumors of the sequel were quashed after the film’s producer and actor Margot Robbie revealed that making a trilogy of the film was never on the cards.

In a statement to the Associated Press, producer and actor Margot Robbie revealed that the cast and crew of the film had put their heart and soul into the first installment, she said, “I think we put everything into this one”. She further revealed that they never planned on making a sequel to the film, “We didn’t build it to be a trilogy or something”.

Margot Robbie added that her biggest takeaway was that the original films can still hit huge at the box office, and it doesn’t have to be a sequel, a prequel, or a remake. She added, “It can be totally original. It can still be big given the big budget to do that.”

Barbie is made on a budget of $145 million. Previously in an interview with The New York Times, Gerwig shared that the film’s original budget was approximately $100 million. However, as time passed, it steadily rose to $145 million.

The film became the highest-grosser of the year surpassing many big hits and blockbusters and breaking several box office records, the film earned more than $1.38 billion and became the biggest blockbuster by Warner Bros.

Directed by Great Gerwig, and produced by Margot Robbie, Barbie is a Warner Bros film that stars Margot Robbie as “Barbie” and Hollywood actor Ryan Gosling as “Ken”. Apart from them the film also stars America Ferrera, Ariana Greenblatt, Issa Rae, Kate McKinnon, and Alexandra Shipp among others. The film was released in theatres worldwide on 12 July.
