Taylor Swift Details Her Romance With Joe Alwyn In New Album ‘Midnights’

Taylor Swift revealed that 'Lavender Haze' was specifically inspired by her relationship with Joe Alwyn.

Taylor Swift has remained low-key about her relationship with her boyfriend Joe Alwyn. But this time, the pop singer has chosen to give fans an insight into their romance with the release of her highly-anticipated album Midnights. The latest album seems to be a most personal album of hers yet. The singer details their love on a track named Sweet Nothing and even enlisted his help as a co-writer.

Taylor explained that her latest 13-track record tells the ‘stories of 13 sleepless nights, scattered throughout my life,’ with several of the tracks lifting the lid on her romance. In the track, Taylor suggests that whilst everyone else want’s something from her, Joe is the one person who remained genuine and true. Moreover, Swift also addressed engagement rumours with beau Joe Alwyn. On Midnights’ opening track, the Grammy winner sings about facing engagement buzz over the last several years with her actor beau.

Previously, Swift teased the track on her Instagram, telling fans she first learned of the phrase “lavender haze” while watching the TV series Mad Men. The singer shared, “I looked it up because I thought it sounded cool. And it turns out that it’s a common phrase used in the ’50s, where they would just describe being in love.'” Swift added that “Lavender Haze” was specifically inspired by her relationship with Alwyn.

She shared that as a couple they had to dodge weird rumours and tabloid stuff, and they just ignore it. Taylor then explained that this song is sort of about the act of ignoring that stuff to protect the real stuff. Swift gives peeks into her love story and life with Alwyn in several songs from her new album Midnights. For the unversed, Taylor began dating Joe in late 2016 after they were rumoured to have crossed paths at that year’s Met Gala in New York City.

It comes as the pop superstar took to social media and revealed: ‘Our last midnight before Midnights,’ along with a 1970s retro promo photo of herself laying back on a couch in a room full of wood paneling. Midnights marks yet another phase in the singer-songwriter’s massive song output in recent years, where she’s released four studio albums since 2019. ‘Our last midnight before Midnights’ is a play with words on the fact this will be the last midnight before the new record is released on Friday, October 21.
