Rishab Shetty Takes Stand Against Film Piracy: ‘Industry Faces Losses Of Rs 20,000 Crore Annually’

Renowned actor, director, and writer Rishab Shetty, known for his remarkable work in the film “Kantara” released in 2022, is now advocating for the prevention of film piracy. “Kantara” achieved tremendous success and became the second highest-grossing Kannada film ever, following “K.G.F.: Chapter 2.”

Recently, Rishab Shetty expressed his support for government initiatives to combat piracy. He shared an official statement from the Ministry of Information and Broadcast on his social media platform, X (formerly known as Twitter). The statement emphasized the significant financial losses faced by the film industry annually due to piracy, estimated at Rs. 20,000 crore. The statement also highlighted that officers from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and the Ministry of Information and Broadcast have been empowered to take action against websites, apps, or links hosting pirated film content.

On the professional front, Rishab Shetty is currently engaged in creating a prequel to his blockbuster “Kantara.” He revealed that what audiences have witnessed is actually Part 2, with Part 1 scheduled for release next year. The idea for the prequel emerged while he was filming “Kantara” because the history of “Kantara” holds more depth that he wishes to explore further. He emphasized that detailed information about the film is still in the research phase and too early to disclose.

Additionally, there are speculations circulating about Rishab Shetty collaborating with renowned director Ashutosh Gowariker, best known for his work on the film “Jodhaa Akbar.” This potential collaboration has generated excitement among fans and followers of both artists, eager to witness their creative endeavors.
