Advocate Saveena Bedi Sachar Secures Historic Acquittal For 27 Accused In 15-Yr Long Legal Battle

Lawyer Saveena Bedi Sachar has achieved a remarkable feat by successfully securing the complete exoneration of all 27 individuals who were accused in Mulund firing case.

In a remarkable victory for justice and the preservation of civil liberties, Advocate Saveena Bedi Sachar has achieved a significant milestone by securing the complete acquittal of all 27 individuals accused in a case that spanned over a decade. This legal saga began in 2008, stemming from a peaceful protest led by members of the Sikh community and their Hindu counterparts against controversial statements made by Ram Rahim, who had declared himself as the embodiment of Guru Gobind Singh Ji.

The series of events leading up to this historic moment started with Ram Rahim’s visit to Mumbai, where he asserted his identity as the avatar of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, a declaration that drew strong disapproval from the Sikh community. In response, Sikh protestors, joined by Hindu supporters, peacefully expressed their discontent by wearing black bands. Tragically, during this peaceful demonstration, a Sikh protestor lost his life when Ram Rahim’s bodyguard fired a fatal shot.

In a responsible and lawful manner, a group of Sikh and Hindu demonstrators informed the police of their intention to hold a peaceful protest outside the police station and in the Mulund area, seeking justice for the deceased protester. Despite their peaceful intentions, Ram Rahim exerted his political influence, leading to an unexpected police lathi charge and the use of tear gas against the protestors. In a controversial move, the police arrested all those involved, charging them with rioting and invoking stringent sections of various criminal acts, including the Indian Penal Code, the Arms Act, and the Bombay Police Act. Adding to the complexity, the First Information Report (FIR) inaccurately referred to the Hindu protestors as “Sardars.”

The ensuing legal battle was arduous and lengthy, commencing in the magistrate court in 2008 and ultimately reaching the Sessions Court two years ago. Throughout this ordeal, the accused steadfastly maintained their innocence, skillfully represented by Advocate Saveena Bedi Sachar.

On September 6, 2023, after years of legal proceedings and unwavering determination, Addl. Sessions Judge U.C. Deshmukh, in Sessions Court, delivered a verdict of acquittal for all 27 accused individuals.

The original signed order was uploaded officially on 5 October, 2023. Check it here:
