Prof. Vijay conducts research on snakes. He subscribes to a legend that suggests an Indian cobra can transform into a human after reaching a certain age. He organizes an expedition to a forest with his friends Raj, Rajesh, Uday, Kiran, and Suraj. In the end, Vijay unravels the enigma, discovering the enchanted shapeshifting serpents Nag (male) and Nagin (female). However, his friends mock him, prompting Vijay to seek validation. On the night of the full moon, when the snakes mate, the group enters the forest. Unfortunately, at that moment, Kiran shoots Nag. This deeply concerns Vijay, as it is known that the female will immediately seek revenge in such situations. Enraged, Nagin recognizes the perpetrators, their images imprinted in the dying Nag’s eyes, and embarks on a killing spree. Vijay, who had rescued one of the snakes, attempts to halt her violent quest.

All these actors delivered bold performances in the Hindi film “Nagin,” where Jitendra and Reena Roy also portrayed the roles of snakes. The film was a success and continues to enjoy popularity today. The music for this film was composed by the legendary duo Laxmikant–Pyarelal, with lyrics penned by Verma Malik. The song “Tere Sang Pyar Main Nahin Todna” became iconic and was later reused in the Tamil remake Neeya.
The title of the film not only reflected the antagonist but also the central character, establishing a trend for Bollywood films featuring villain-led narratives. Rajkumar Kohli gained recognition for his multi-starrer fantasy films, including Jaani Dushman and Badle Ki Aag. It remains a cult classic due to its combination of supernatural elements, memorable music, and the glamour of Bollywood during that era.
