The movie Kasme Vaade premiered on 20 April 1978, featuring Amitabh Bachchan in a dual role. In addition to him, the cast included Randhir Kapoor, Rakhi, Neetu Singh, and Amjad Khan. The film achieved superhit status and was greatly appreciated by audiences. It became a golden jubilee. Following this, the film Besharam was released on 28 April 1978, just a week later. Directed by Deven Verma, it starred Amitabh Bachchan, Sharmila Tagore, and Amjad Khan. Although it was not a blockbuster, it garnered a response that was better than average and enjoyed commercial success.
Subsequently, the film Trishul was released on 5 May, featuring Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor, Sanjeev Kumar, Hema Malini, Rakhee, Poonam Dhillon, and Waheeda Rehman. Directed by Yash Chopra, this film turned out to be a significant blockbuster. On 12 May, the film Don was released, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Zeenat Aman, and Iftekar. Directed by Chandra Barot, it became a cult blockbuster and ranked as the third biggest film of 1978.
All films were successful, with three achieving massive hit status and still regarded as one of the most impressive box office achievements in Indian cinema. NDTV emphasizes that this “miracle” of launching four hits within a month is unparalleled.
A trade analyst remarked that while Besharam was simply “average,” the other three films enjoyed remarkably extended theatrical runs, ranging from 50 to over 100 weeks. Amitabh Bachchan delivered four hits in a single month. Taran also mentioned that there was no negativity during that period. He stated that there were clashes, but they never labeled any other film as negative. There was no contention over theater space for his film. Even Big B did not exert any pressure regarding the release of his four films within four weeks.
