Here are some signs that depression is affecting your relationship-

Balancing personal life and work life is no easy feat. In a life full of stress and work, things like mental and emotional balance becomes a topic of concern. With increasing stress, cases of depression have drastically increased in numbers and are still going up. With depression it’s only natural that people will witness the feeling of being ’emotionally’ and ‘physically’ drained.

In many cases of depression, the disease has made a drastic impact on the person’s relationship with their family or partners. While you might be ignoring but feeling jealous, frustrated, hurt and inferior to your partner are some signs that your depression is eroding your relationship.

Here are some signs that depression is affecting your relationship-

  1. Lack Of S*x Drive

Having lacked the feeling of having s*x with your partner is one of the most basic signs of depression. In early and late stages of depression and bipolar people often show signs of having lack of se*ual drive which automatically leads to issues between partners.

2. Isolation

Another sign of depression affecting your relationship is “isolation” where your partner prefers to shut down their emotional and physical needs completely leading to isolation. Many people prefer to isolate themselves hence avoiding any human contact in depression.

3. Squabbling

Lack of communication leads to miscommunication. In many cases of depression people stop expressing their emotional self hence distancing themselves from their partners which often leads them to lose their temper on several accounts leading to fights and squabbling.

4. Don’t Feel Like Going Out

Yet another symptom and sign of depression, is when people stop going out or even stepping out of their rooms. In many cases people lose their interest in their hobbies and work eventually shutting them down and living in their personal space.

5. Don’t Feel Like Expressing Yourselves

People with depression have hard time dealing with their emotions. They either shut themselves or they chose not to express their emotion self to anyone, even their partners. While many feel “vulnerable”, others feel its not a big deal. While many lose their temper others simply remain calm and unbothered.

6. Feel Like Giving Up On Your “Hopeless Relationship”

Patients diagnosed with depression are usually emotionally and physically drained which leads them to give up their hopes on their relationships. In many cases people resort to breaking up with their partners, while others even tend to take major steps like suicide in a fit of anger or especially when they are too overwhelmed with a certain feeling.

What to Do?

Dealing with depression is no easy task, but it becomes a lot easier when you have someone with you. Let your partner take control over a few things. Even if it is difficult try to “talk”.

Shutting down is not an option if you want to save your relationship. Talk, let them know what you are going through. Express your gratitude, let them know that you are grateful to them for hanging in there and helping you.

Take up different activities like yoga, cycling, painting, listening to music, reading books etc. Open yourself to positive feelings and thoughts.

There’s no fight that can’t be fought as long as you’re willing to.
