Poonam Pandey’s recent “fake death” stunt has garnered huge media attention and loads of criticism and backlash from people and celebrities. The PR stunt which was expected to grow awareness about cervical cancer was blown out of proportion and even an FIR has now been lodged against Poonam Pandey for playing with the public’s sentiments and emotions.
And amidst all the backlash and criticism, Poonam Pandey’s PR agency which was behind this whole idea of “fake death” has now finally addressed the matter. In a statement, the agency first issued an apology, “Yes, we were involved in the initiative for Poonam Pandey to spread awareness about Cervical Cancer in collaboration with Hauterfly. To start off, we would like to extend a heartfelt apology – especially towards those who have been triggered as a result of having faced/having a loved one face the hardships of any kind of Cancer,”
Defending Poonam’s actions for the cause of cervical cancer the agency added in the statement, “Many of you may be unaware but Poonam’s own mother has bravely battled Cancer. Having been through the challenges of battling a disease like this at such close personal quarters, she understands the importance of prevention and the criticality of awareness, especially when a vaccine is available”.
For the unversed, on 2 February, Poonam’s agency issued a statement on her Instagram account announcing her death. The statement read, “This morning is a tough one for us. Deeply saddened to inform you that we have lost our beloved Poonam to cervical cancer. Every living form that ever came in contact with her was met with pure love and kindness. In this time of grief, we would request for privacy while we remember her fondly for all that we shared.”
However, on 3rd February, Poonam herself came out and released her video revealing that she is alive and it was all just a stunt to promote awareness regarding cervical cancer.
