Stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui has been apprehended by Mumbai Police in connection with a raid at Sabalan Hookah Bar in the Bora Bazar area. Reports suggest that Faruqui is one of seven individuals detained by the authorities during the raid, which occurred late at night following a tip-off.
Allegedly, the hookahs seized during the raid contained banned tobacco. Situated in Fort, the bar’s patrons were suspected of consuming tobacco-based hookah. If proven that they were disguising tobacco as herbal hookah, they could face charges under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, potentially resulting in fines and imprisonment upon conviction.
However, as per reports from news agency ANI, Munawar Faruqui was subsequently released from custody following the filing of a case against him. The information indicates that Faruqui was accused under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003 (COTPA).
In 2021, stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui endured a 37-day stint in the Central Jail of Indore for allegedly offending the religious sentiments of Hindus. His arrest followed accusations from a political party claiming that his comedy was disrespectful to Hindus.
This incident led to significant challenges for Faruqui, including visa complications that prevented him from participating in Khatron Ke Khiladi 11 abroad. Although he emerged as the victor of Bigg Boss 17, his time on the show was marred by controversy, with his personal relationships being exploited by the producers.
On the work front, Munawar will next be seen in Splitsvilla 15 after doing Bigg Boss 17 and LockUpp. Splitsvilla 15 has hinted at Munawar Faruqui’s involvement in the show. Speculations among fans suggest that he might appear as a guest, akin to Uorfi Javed.
