Sushmita Sen won everyone’s heart with her comeback and OTT debut in Aarya. After impressing people with her remarkable work in films the Main Hoon Na actress stepped into the digital world. She graced the show with her amazing performance winning accolades. However, it is surprising to know that Sushmita Sen was not the first choice in Ram Madhvani’s web series. Kajol was the one who was offered the project Aarya before Sushmita Sen.
Aarya is an official adaptation of the popular Dutch series, Penoza. Sushmita Sen headlined two seasons leaving a mark on the audience with her great acting skills. The story is of Aarya, an independent woman who joins a mafia gang to seek revenge for her husband’s death. Initially, Kajol was approached to play the gangster’s role.
The Kuch Kuch Hota Hai star Kajol was director Ram Madhvani’s foremost preference for Aarya instead of Sushmita Sen. The director first reached out to Ishq actress but when she turned down the offer Sushmita Sen came on board.
In an interview with a media portal, Kajol revealed she was approached for Aarya. About whether she watched the series after rejecting it, the Dilwale actress said: “I did and I liked the script very much. But it didn’t work out for me personally at that time.” On being asked if dates were an issue to not accepting the offer she responded: “There were other reasons for it.”
The thriller crime series is helmed by director Ram Madhvani and Sandeep Modi streaming on Disney+ Hotstar. The third season is in making after two successful seasons that were critically acclaimed. Recently, the show was nominated for best drama series at the International Emmy Awards.
With many Bollywood actors experiencing the digital space Kajol has also stepped into the OTT world. Her first appearance was in the web film Tribhanga featuring Mithila Palkar and Tanvi Azmi. She recently made a media appearance at the special screening of the mystery film Gupt on completing 25 years. Kajol is now said teaming up with Badhaai Ho director Amit Sharma for Netflix’s Lust Stories 2.
