Heeramandi’s First Song Sakal Ban Out: Bhansali’s Classical Touch To Amir Khusro’s Traditional Melody

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's upcoming web series Heeramandi's first song "Sakal Ban" is released today. The song is originally a traditional song that has significance during Vasant Panchami.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s another magnificent  venture, a web series “Heeramandi” will serve the audience soon. Bhansali Music released the first song from the web series named “Sakal Ban” on Saturday, March 9. As the music video says “This Spring, Rejoice With Sakal Ban”, the series may be released next month at the start of summer. The song features the entire lead cast of the movie, including Manisha Koirala, Richa Chadha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sanjeeda Sheikh and Sharmin Sehgal, excluding Sonakshi Sinha.

Sakal Ban song is a traditional song which holds a lot of significance during Vasant Panchami. Vasant Panchami is that time of year when people, especially women dressed up in yellow and mustard flowers, have some special place on this day. It is marked as the transition period from winter to summer. In this song of Heeramandi, a huge, royal so-called Bhansali set has been embellished in mustard colour (yellow shade). All the ladies including the star cast have dressed up in mustard coloured outfits. Though Sharmin doesn’t dance, it seems like she is the centre of the attraction of that special event. Another delightful thing about this song is the graceful and flawless dance moves by the remaining cast. Manisha, Richa, Aditi Rao Hydari & Richa have presented themselves in an elegant way through the dance.

This traditional song Sakal Ban is written by Amir Khusro, who was a Persian singer and one of the honest disciples of Nizamuddin Auliya. It is sung by Raja Hasan. The lyrics of the song “Sakal Ban Phool Rahi Sarson” mean “Every field is full of yellow mustard flowers.” It will be riveting to know about this song’s connection to the movie’s scenario. This melodious song with graceful movements is indeed a pleasure to watch.

Talking about the web series directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Mitakshara Kumar, will be released on Netflix in April 2024.
