The Australian actress, who stars on the smash hit HBO series Succession, fell for fellow Aussie Dave Lawson while the friends were locked down together. It was the 33-year-old who got down on one knee and asked the comedian for his hand in marriage. Sarah Snook recently told Vogue, “At the beginning of the pandemic last year, I got locked down in Melbourne with one of my best mates and we fell in love. We’ve been friends since 2014, lived together, traveled together, always excited to see each other, but totally platonic.”
Sarah says that ‘the stars aligned and a romance between the pair arose just like the plot of a film she might star in.’ Further, she explained, “We’ve just never been single at the same time.” The succession star proposed in October last year, and the couple exchanged vows in the backyard of her home in Brooklyn, New York, in February. She said, “It’s been a ride. There’s so much heartache and sadness in the world, but on a micro personal level, I’ve been very fortunate.” She added, “There’s a really lovely grace in that without the pandemic, we might not have ended up together so quickly.”
Gossip first fueled the internet when Snook stepped out on the red carpet in New York last week, at the season three premiere of Succession, wearing a sparkling ring on her ring finger. Dave has appeared in photos shared to Sarah’s Instagram account, with the couple taking a trip to Spain together with friends in 2019. The Adelaide-born star has been living in Brooklyn for some time, and recently spoke on Late Night With Seth Meyers about the beloved borough. She said, “I love it. I love Brooklyn. It’s like, I don’t know, Brooklyn is like a little brother to Manhattan, or like Australia to America.” She added, “it’s like on the outside looking in, but you get the better view.”
Snook plays the character Siobhan ‘Shiv’ Roy in Succession, which has been a huge hit for HBO. The series is set within the powerful Roy family, who run a massive media conglomerate, with Shiv and her siblings Roman (played by Kieran Culkin), Kendall (played by Jeremy Strong), and Connor (played by Alan Ruck) all working below their father Logan (played by Brian Cox).
