Sia Shares Insights On Heartbreaking Divorce: ‘I Was in Bed for Three Years’

Despite The Ongoing Mourning And Debilitating Depression, Sia Gradually Began To Record Little Bits And Pieces Here And There

International singing sensation Sia recently revealed the profound impact of her divorce from filmmaker Erik Anders Lang, describing the emotional turmoil as so debilitating that she found herself bedridden for three years. The Grammy-winning artist shared her experience during a candid conversation with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, shedding light on how this challenging period served as the inspiration for her upcoming album, “Reasonable Woman.”

During the interview, Sia candidly reflected on her creative journey, stating, “Well, actually, the truth is that I had just been every now and again writing a song here or there for the last six, seven years.” However, she attributed her shift towards full-fledged songwriting to the profound impact of her divorce, which left her in a state of deep despair.

She shared, “I got divorced, and that really threw me for a loop. That was such a dark time that I was in bed for three years, really, really severely depressed. And so I couldn’t really do anything for that period of time.”

Despite the ongoing mourning and debilitating depression, Sia gradually began to record little bits and pieces here and there. She admitted that it was an immense struggle to find the motivation to leave her bed during this challenging period. Eventually, these scattered musical fragments evolved into a collection of songs, culminating in her forthcoming album, “Reasonable Woman.”

Sia humbly relied on her management team to gauge when they had enough quality material for an album, given her emotional state. She explained, “So I just rely on my management to tell me when we’ve got enough good ones because I don’t really … I can tell when I think one is particularly good, I think I can tell, but they tell me when we’ve got 11 or 12 or 13 enough good ones, real good ones.”
