Patrick Dempsey Crowned ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ By People Magazine For 2023, Succeeding Chris Evans

The actor humorously admitted he was completely shocked when he first learned the news, initially thinking it was a joke.

In an exciting announcement, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ star Patrick Dempsey has been officially named People Magazine’s ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ for the year 2023, taking over the coveted title from the 2022 honoree, Chris Evans. The 57-year-old actor, known for his iconic role as Dr. Derek Shepherd on the popular medical drama, expressed his gratitude for the recognition.

Dempsey shared his feelings with People Magazine, saying, “I’m glad it’s happening at this point in my life. It’s nice to have the recognition, and certainly my ego takes a little bump, but it gives me the platform to use it for something positive.”

The actor humorously admitted he was “completely shocked” when he first learned the news, initially thinking it was a joke. “I was completely shocked, and then I started laughing, like, this is a joke, right? I’ve always been the bridesmaid!” he confessed.

When asked about how his children would react to his new title, Dempsey anticipated their playful response. He said, “They are just going to make fun of me and pick on me and figure out every reason why I shouldn’t be. Which is good, they keep me young.”

Patrick Dempsey is married to Jillian, also 57, a makeup artist and founder of her own clean beauty line. The couple shares three children: 21-year-old Talula and 16-year-old twins Sullivan and Darby.

In his upcoming project, Dempsey is set to showcase his racing skills in the Michael Mann-directed biopic ‘Ferrari,’ scheduled for release in December. He will portray Italian driver Piero Taruffi. Reflecting on the opportunity, Dempsey shared, “I’d been following the movie for years, so I called Michael and said, ‘I want to discuss being a part of this.’ That taught me if you really want something, you have to do it yourself.”

Notably, the ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ title for 2022 was held by Chris Evans, who expressed his mother’s delight at the time. “My mom will be so happy,” he told People in his reaction. “She’s proud of everything I do, but this is something she can really brag about,” he added. Evans’s mom, Lisa, enthusiastically celebrated her son’s achievement, emphasizing her family’s pride in the recognition.
