Kristen Stewart Calls Robert Pattinson-Starrer ‘Twilight’ A ‘G*y’ Movie, Says ‘It’s All About Oppression’

Stewart shared the challenges of being in the public eye, particularly during her relationship with co-star Robert Pattinson.

Kristen Stewart, who shot to stardom as Bella Swan in the iconic Twilight series, recently opened up about her journey, both in Hollywood and in embracing her own identity. In a candid interview with Variety, the acclaimed actor reflected on her decision to come out as gay during her hosting gig on Saturday Night Live in 2017 and the subsequent reactions from the public.

Stewart shared the challenges of being in the public eye, particularly during her relationship with co-star Robert Pattinson. The constant curiosity surrounding their connection made her self-conscious as a public figure. Inspired by Jodie Foster’s performance in David Fincher’s “Panic Room,” Stewart found solace in understanding herself beyond the constraints of societal expectations. She recalled, “I was already going like, ‘Don’t f**k with me.’ I was g*y.”

Discussing her experience working on the Twilight movies, Stewart acknowledged the inherently heterosexual nature of the films but revealed a unique layer of queer awakening associated with them. “I can only see it now. I don’t think it necessarily started off that way, but I also think that the fact that I was there at all, it was percolating. It’s such a gay movie. I mean, Jesus Christ, Taylor [Lautner] and Rob and me, and it’s so hidden and not OK. I mean, a Mormon woman wrote this book. It’s all about oppression, about wanting what’s going to destroy you. That’s a very Gothic, gay inclination that I love,” she added. Stewart’s recent success includes an Oscar nomination for Best Actress for her remarkable performance in “Spencer.” As she prepares to attend the 40th Sundance Film Festival, where she will be honored with the Visionary Award, two of her films, “Love Me” and “Love Lies Bleeding,” are set to premiere this month.
