Hollywood star Joaquin Phoenix is stepping up another notch after Ari Aster’s “Beau Is Afraid” by collaborating with director Todd Haynes on an NC-17-rated gay romance film. During an appearance at the Cannes Film Festival, Haynes shared details about the film following the premiere of his latest work, “May December,” featuring Natalie and Julianne Moore. Haynes revealed that the upcoming film is an original script co-developed with Joaquin, based on ideas and thoughts brought to him by the actor.


Haynes stated that the next film is a feature that’s an original script, which they basically wrote with him as a story writer. The team hopes to begin shooting it early next year. It’s a gay love story set in 1930s L.A.”

Haynes further added that Joaquin was pushing me further. ’ This will be an NC-17 film.”
