A year after the infamous Oscar slap controversy actress Jada Pinkett finally broke her silence on the matter and revealed that she attended the Oscars with Will Smith not as “husband and wife” but as a family. Jada Pinkett made revelations about her marriage life will Smith stating that the two had already been separated since 2016 which was long before the Oscar slap controversy.
Jada Pinkett-Will Smith Separation Since 2016
In recent interviews, actress Jada Pinkett revealed that it had already been 7 years since she and Chris Rock were “separated”. Jada confirmed to Today that she and Will Smith have been apart since 2016.
Jada told Hoda Kotb in an interview, “I think just not being ready yet, still trying to figure out between the two of us how to be in partnership and in regard to how do we present that to people.”
Jada added that by the time the two of them got to 2016, they were just “exhausted” from trying in their relationship. She stated that both she and Will were stuck in their fantasy of what they thought the other person should be.
Talking about the decision of not taking a “divorce” Jada said that she had made a promise that there will never be a reason for the two of them to get a divorce. She added that no matter what, she and Smith will work through whatever. And so, she hasn’t been able to break that promise.
Talking about the Oscar slap controversy with Chris Rock, Jada Pinkett told People, that she had thought that it (the slap) was a skit and that there was no way her husband and actor Will Smith would hit the host, Chris Rock. However, she it was only when Will started to walk back to his chair that she realized that all of it wasn’t a skit.
For the unversed, Jada Pinkett and Will Smith have been married since 1997. The couple shares three children including 25-year-old Jaden, 22-year-old Willow, 22-, and 3-year-old Trey.
