How Eminem Was Roped In For Akon’s Most Famous Song ‘Smack That’

During an appearance on the Bootleg Kev podcast, Akon shared insights into his past work with the superstar rapper.

Akon listed numerous hit songs from his music career, and ‘Smack That’ stands out among them. The track, part of his 2006 album ‘Konvicted,’ reached No. 2 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 dated November 4, 2006, and spent a total of 30 weeks on the chart.

Interestingly, Eminem produced ‘Smack That,’ marking a unique collaboration. During an appearance on the Bootleg Kev podcast, Akon shared insights into his past work with the superstar rapper. ‘It’s interesting because every record I ever put out, I actually produced, except ‘Smack That,’’ he explained. ‘Eminem produced that record. Isn’t that crazy? He always had these small, distinctive sounds that felt like Eminem.’

Akon admitted his surprise at Eminem’s skill as a producer, mentioning, ‘He gave me a folder with, like, 30 tracks in there. Out of the 30, I picked five. I recorded all five, and the one that stood out was ‘Smack That.’ I was like, ‘Bro, this is it.’ Once he heard my concept for it, he said, ‘Yo, I’m jumping on this one.’ And I said, ‘You know what, if he jumps on this one, this will be a single.’

Despite numerous collaborations, ‘Smack That’ remains their only joint release. Akon still possesses these records, hinting at future drops.

Beyond music, Akon has dedicated himself to philanthropy, actively aiding African countries in accessing electricity. In 2011, he even lent his vocals to the song ‘Chammak Challo’ for Shah Rukh Khan’s movie ‘RaOne.’

On the other hand, Eminem is hailed as the ‘Rap God’ and stands as one of the most successful rappers of all time. His discography includes hits like ‘Without Me,’ ‘Mockingbird,’ ‘Rap God,’ ‘Not Afraid,’ and many more.
