Director James Gunn Is Reportedly Working On Secret DC Movie

Warner Bros. and James Gunn are yet to officially comment on the reports.

James Gunn is better known for Marvel films. However, he has also worked on a few DC projects. While fans are still waiting for director James Gunn’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special and Guardians of the Galaxy 3, it seems like he has not done with the DC Extended Universe.

According to the new reports by The Hollywood Reporter, the filmmaker is ‘angling’ for a future DC project. While it’s unclear what secret project he might be working on, he’s apparently doing with producer Peter Safran, who has produced  Aquaman, Shazam!  and their upcoming sequels. The duo had previously teamed for 2021’s The Suicide Squad and The Peacemaker TV series.

Warner Bros. and James Gunn are yet to officially comment on the reports. Meanwhile, Gunn is also expected to focus on Season 2 of HBO Max’s The Peacemaker. HBO Max renewed The Peacemaker for a second season just a day before the show debuted in February. It was also confirmed that Gunn would both write and direct all eight episodes of The Peacemaker Season 2, though it’s currently unclear when that will start production.

Gunn was firmly entrenched in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with his successful 2014 movie Guardians of the Galaxy and its 2017 sequel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The filmmaker was surprisingly let go by Disney in July 2018 for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, after a series of off-colour jokes he had tweeted many years ago that had recently re-surfaced. After Disney let him go, he was brought on in October 2018 to write and direct The Suicide Squad, which was released in August 2021.

He also wrote and directed the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which will debut on Disney Plus sometime in December. Gunn is also writing and producing the animated film Coyote vs. Acme, which has John Cena, Will Forte and Lana Condor set for the voice cast.
