Billie Eilish Calls Out The Body-Shamers In ‘Not My Responsibility’ Short Film

Billie Eilish released a short film on Wednesday, in which she slowly strips down while her own voiceover slams all eager to body shame and pass judgment.

Titled Not My Responsibility and written and produced by Eilish, the video that originally debuted at Where Do We Go? during the singer’s   World tour, reveals the teen Grammy winner, gradually remove a hoodie and taking off a button-down shirt and then a tank top too.

She then submerges herself fully in water. “Do you know me, really know me?” she questions in a voiceover.“You’ll have opinions about my opinions, about my music, about my clothes, about my body.”

The short film ends with Eilish reflecting on how people who do not know her like judging her. “Some people hate what I wear, some people praise it, some people use it to shame others, some people use it to shame me, but I feel you watching, always,”  she continues. “Nothing I do goes unseen.”

Then she points out that given the fact that she always wears baggy clothing, covering her body from view, she is often being mocked for it or told that she is not womanly because of this and, before pointing out how we, as a culture, make people’s assumptions based on their appearance.

“Is my value based only on your perception?  Or is your opinion of me not my responsibility?” she concludes while asking these unanswered questions.
