Why did viewers reject Lal Salam despite its high-quality themes and Rajinikanth?

Lal Salaam would be much less interesting without the presence of Rajinikanth. He is the star of the film.

Speaking of the movie, Lal Salaam is a sports drama of a cricket match between two local teams leading to communal clashes between Hindus and Muslims in a Tamil Nadu village.

Rajinikanth as the title character, “Moideen Bhai.” Lal Salaam explores the idea of coexisting religions. It tells the story of young cricket players who are unfairly cut from the squad despite their skills.

Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth’s debut film, 3, demonstrates her ability to delicately and efficiently create sensitive moments on screen in its first half. She demonstrates this one more with Lal Salaam.

However, Aishwaryaa restricts these intimate moments for a plot that tackles a larger issue, just like she did with 3. There’s a really cute scene where Rajinikanth (Moideen Bhai) pretends to be a bowler and plays cricket with his batter kid (Vikranth).

Regretfully, Aishwaryaa mostly decides against including these scenes to concentrate more on the main conflict of the movie. However, even in the instances where she does concentrate on these moments, the sequences just keep going, particularly the one in which a family converses over dinner. While these situations make us, the audience, happy, it gets a little annoying when they keep happening.

Its greatest adversary is Lal Salaam’s duration. There’s no need for these long uncut sequences because they don’t have any relevance to the plot later on. This in turn creates the impression that the tale is stagnating.

Lal Salaam mostly talks on the gap between Muslims and Hindus and religious turmoil. The movie’s political themes deserve praise. However, there was room for further subtlety in the way the dispute was resolved. It had the potential to be more than just some convenient prose.

The dignified cinematography of Vishnu Rangasamy is essential to the film’s lack of abruptness. AR Rahman’s songs, meanwhile, work better as stand-alone pieces than as plot devices.

It must be acknowledged that without Rajinikanth, the movie would have been far less engaging. Lal Salaam is definitely elevated by his captivating presence. He needn’t, however, shoulder all the responsibility for the movie’s success, as the ensemble—led by the outstanding Vishnu Vishal—is excellent.
