When Nana Patekar Called Sanjay Leela Bhansali And Scolded Him, Saying, “What Is This ‘Wat Laavli’?”

The Actor Emphasized The Responsibility Of Filmmakers When Presenting Stories Based On Real Incidents

Bollywood veteran Nana Patekar is set to grace the silver screen once again, this time in the highly-anticipated movie “The Vaccine War,” centered around the creation of India’s first indigenous COVID vaccine. The film’s trailer, released just a few days ago, has garnered widespread appreciation, with Nana Patekar’s portrayal of a lead scientist earning him accolades.

In a recent interview with IANS, Nana Patekar emphasized the importance of authenticity in films based on true events. He shared an incident involving filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, where he expressed his displeasure with a creative choice.

“You can see it in Bhansali’s films. I was unhappy with the song ‘Malhari.’ I directly called him up and said, ‘What is this ‘wat laavli’? I did not like it, so I told him. I am not bothered about whether people will like it or not. If I did not like it, I told him,” he revealed. Nana Patekar had previously collaborated with Bhansali in the 1996 film “Khamoshi: The Musical.”

Discussing “The Vaccine War,” Patekar emphasized the responsibility of filmmakers when presenting stories based on real incidents. “When you say it is a true story, it is based on real incidents, then we can ask certain questions from the creators because they cannot take liberties with the facts. If it is a true story, everything about it should be true,” he asserted.

“The Vaccine War” is slated to go head-to-head with the comedy “Fukrey 3” at the box office. “Fukrey 3” marks the third installment in the popular Fukrey franchise and features a star-studded cast, including Richa Chadha, Pulkit Samrat, Manjot Singh, Varun Sharma, and Pankaj Tripathi in leading roles. Moviegoers can look forward to an exciting clash between these two highly-anticipated films.
