Actor Jeetendra is one of the most respected actors in Bollywood industry. And so is veteran actress Hema Malini. Both of them have been in the industry for about 50 years. They are now blessed with grandchildren as well. But did you know that there was a time when they almost got married?
Well, they would have been husband and wife, had Dharmendra not made a dramatic entry by gate crashing their wedding ceremony.
This incident dates back to the early 70s when Hema was in love with already married man Dharmendra. Her family was totally against her relationship. On the other hand, Jeetendra and Hema were good friends. It is said that Jeetendra used to have a soft spot for Hema even though he was dating Shobha, his now wife.
Hema’s mother thought of getting her daughter married off in order to deal with Dharmendra situation. Jeetendra’s parents were more than happy to accept Hema as their daughter-in-law and Jeetendra too agreed to his parents’ desire.
A secret wedding was planned in Chennai. However, a slightly drunk Dharmendra, accompanied by Jeetendra’s then girlfriend and now wife, Shobha, reached the venue in time to stop the ceremony.
Later, Jeetendra married Shobha, who was reportedly an air hostess with British Airways, in 1974. They have two kids together – Ekta Kapoor and Tusshar Kapoor. Hema and Dharmendra were eventually married in 1980 and have two daughters – Esha Deol and Ahana Deol – together.
