Chris Pine Reveals Being ‘Stunned’ When Wonder Woman 3 Got Shelved

The Poolman actor who portrayed Gal Gadot's love interest in the previous two films, stated that he would not have returned for a third one.

Chris Pine, who featured in Wonder Woman (2017) and Wonder Woman 1984 (2020), recently expressed his shock to Business Insider about the news that a third installment in the superhero franchise would not be produced.

“I’m stunned that they said no to a billion-dollar franchise and decided to pivot elsewhere,” the Star Trek actor said. “I don’t know what the reasoning was behind that; it’s above my pay grade, but Wonder Woman is an incredible character. Patty is such a thoughtful director.”

Chris, who portrayed Gal Gadot’s (Diana Prince) Wonder Woman character’s love interest in the previous two films, stated that he would not have returned for a third one.

“Me. No. Homie is dead. Steve is gonzo. It would be ridiculous to try to bring me back,” The Poolman star spoke about his character, who died at the conclusion of the first movie but reappeared in the sequel when Gal’s character wished for him to return to reality.

“I had no interest in playing the boyfriend, and it sounded like second fiddle,” Pine expressed. “Then, in talking to Patty, the way she described it was, ‘Forget the superhero of it all, this is a romance, this is Casablanca, that’s the movie I want to make.’ I was like, ‘Oh, now that is very cool because when have you seen a superhero film that was a love story, ultimately?’ That had nothing to do with blowing shit up.”

For the unversed, after the acquisition of DC Studios by James Gunn and Peter Safran, who started to restructure the DC Comics Extended Universe, Wonder Woman 3 was shelved.
