Lagaan Actor Javed Khan Amrohi Passes Away At 73

Javed Khan Amrohi has appeared in smaller yet pivotal roles in over 150 films and close to a dozen TV shows.

Popular veteran actor Javed Khan Amrohi who is best known for being part of D.D. National’s Nukkad, and films such as Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke (1993), Andaaz Apna Apna (1994), Lagaan (2000), and Chak De! India (2007), passed away on February 14, due to lung failure. He was 73 years old.

Javed Amrohi Khan, who was in his early 70s, passed away due to lung failure at a Mumbai hospital on Tuesday. “Javed was suffering from a respiratory ailment and was bedridden for one year. He was undergoing treatment at Surya Nursing Home,” filmmaker Ramesh Talwar told PTI. Amrohi is survived by a son and a daughter.

FTII graduate Javed Khan Amrohi has appeared in smaller yet pivotal roles in over 150 films and close to a dozen TV shows. He was also member of The Indian People’s Theatre Association (IPTA) since 1972.

A social media post by IPTA, Mumbai, called the actor “an integral part” of their association. “Javed ji has been a member of IPTA since 1972, serving as an actor, director and general secretary for many years. Even after passing out from the FTII, his commitment to theatre was constant. We mourn the passing of a wholesome artist. RIP Javed Khan Amrohi ji.” the post stated.

Actor Akhilendra Mishra who was Javed’s co-star in Lagaan told PTI that the actor’s last rites will be performed at the Oshiwara Kabristan at 7.30 pm today.
