The feud between Sunny Deol and Shah Rukh Khan was not hidden from fans; they were not on speaking terms for quite a few years. However, it now appears that they have sorted out their differences. In a recent interview with the Times Now, Sunny revealed that Shah Rukh had called him and wished him luck for “Gadar 2.”
“He had seen the film, and before that, he called me up and wished me. He was so happy. I spoke to his wife and son, and he said, ‘Tonight we’re going to watch the film.’ And I think he tweeted about it after that.”
“Regarding the past issues or whatever they were, I believe time heals everything, and we move ahead. That’s how it should be,” the actor added.
Going back to 1993, Sunny was already an established star, while Shah Rukh Khan was a newcomer. An opportunity emerged for Sunny to take on the protagonist role in Yash Chopra’s film “Darr.” However, as several leading actors declined the chance to portray the antagonist, Shah Rukh Khan eventually stepped in to play the role of the psychotic lover.
Upon the movie’s release, Shah Rukh Khan skyrocketed to stardom almost instantly. His performance cast a shadow over Sunny Deol, who held the role of the film’s hero. Sunny found himself frustrated with Yash Chopra for giving greater prominence to Shah Rukh’s character.
Sunny Deol even had an argument with Yash Chopra during the shooting of the climax scene with Shah Rukh. In an episode of Aap Ki Adalat, Sunny said, “I tried explaining that my character is a commando officer in the film. He’s an expert and fit, so how can this boy beat me easily? He could beat me if I can’t see him. If he can stab me while I am looking at him, then I won’t be called a commando.”
This incident left Sunny so infuriated that he did not speak to Shah Rukh for 16 years.
