Shefali Shah Chose To Be Home For 2 Years And Rejected Offers

Shefali Shah revealed acting as Akshay Kumar’s mother at 28 and then rejected movie offers for 2 years

Shefali Shah received praises for her role in Jalsa along with Vidya Balan. The actress has built her name in the industry with remarkable movies and web shows. The Dil Dhadakne Do star recalled the time when she acted mother of Akshay Kumar at the age of 28. She revealed that she had rejected big offers even if it meant sitting at home. She preferred to be at home for 2 years instead of accepting offers because the role was older than her age.

At a very young age, Shefali had played the role of a mother. She was seen as the wife of Amitabh Bachchan and the mother of Akshay Kumar in the 2005 movie Waqt: The Race Against Time. The movie also starred Priyanka Chopra, Boman Irani, and Rajpal Yadav.

Following that movie, Shefali realized to work in age-appropriate roles and chose to refuse roles that weren’t up to the mark. In an interview with a popular news portal, She said, “I played aged very early. I played Akshay Kumar’s mother when I was around 28. I got Hasratein when I was 20 and played a 30-35 year-old in it. After a point, I decided if I’m not getting the work that really drives me crazy, I will sit at home. I reached this place that such kind of work won’t come every day. And the few films I did raised that bar. I’ve said no to work even if it meant sitting at home for two years not doing anything.”

With the introduction of OTT space, the 49-year-old actress didn’t stay back from exploring new opportunities. She was seen playing prominent roles in Delhi Crime and Ajeeb Daastaans. Not just web shows she was also critically acclaimed for the web film Jalsa which was released on Amazon Prime Video.

Shefali spoke about the digital space, “OTT opened up that horizon with age-appropriate roles, where a heroine didn’t have an expiry date. Otherwise, there was an 18-22 window of age. After that, they didn’t know what to do with the women. They either became accessories or were just a wall in the background. I’ve been working since I was 16. But my professional life changed by the time I reached my 40s. In fact, it changed in the last two years after Delhi Crime.”

On the work front, Shefali Shah will now feature in Alia Bhatt’s first production film Darlings. She also has Doctor G in the pipeline along with Ayushmann Khurana. After headlining Delhi Crime season 1 she will next appear in Delhi Crime 2 as well.
