Karan Johar Reveals Why He Cast Jaya Bachchan In “Such A Nasty Role” In ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’

Karan Johar revealed that why he casted veteran actress Jaya Bachchan in such a nasty role in Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani.

Karan Johar has returned to the director’s chair after 7 years with ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’, which also marks his 25-year milestone in the industry. The film has successfully captured a place in the hearts of the audience and has created a sensation at the box office. It has now attained the position of being the highest-grossing Bollywood romantic comedy worldwide. The film also evoked memories of the past for veteran actors Shabana Azmi, Dharmendra, and Jaya Bachchan, reminding audiences of their golden days. However, it was veteran actress Jaya Bachchan who managed to capture everyone’s attention, as her portrayal seemed to reflect certain aspects of her real life, knowingly or unknowingly. Many fans also created memes featuring her, adding to the buzz. Now the director has revealed why he chose her for that particular role.

During a recent conversation with The Indian Express, the 51-year-old filmmaker was asked why he cast veteran actress Jaya Bachchan in ‘such a nasty’ role. He responded that it was intentional on his part, and he wanted to offer her something different to portray compared to her past positive roles.

He stated, “It was actually about casting against type. She has had such a wonderful image on and off the screen. She is a motherly figure to me. So, when I wanted to cast against type, I thought it would be a great role for her to challenge what she has done before. She has been perceived as very virtuous… that was her on-screen personality. Therefore, sometimes it’s nice to shake things up.”

Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani” was released in theaters on July 28th, starring Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh in the lead roles. The film has grossed 300 crore in global collections, securing a place as one of Bollywood’s highest-grossing films.
