Kajol and Ajay Devgn are the most underrated couple of Bollywood. There isn’t much hype about them on social media, whereas people talk a lot about Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan, even though there is no such thing between them other than friendship. Unlike other Bollywood couples, Kajol and Ajay are successful in keeping their marriage alive. Next month, on February 25th, the couple will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary.
In an old interview with the BBC, Kajol revealed that her father didn’t agree to her wedding. Kajol decided to marry “Phool Aur Kaante” star Ajay Devgn in the year 1999 after 4 years of relationship. During that time, Kajol was just 25, and she was at the peak of her career. Her father, Shomu Mukherjee, was also in the industry, and he was angry with Kajol for this decision. He asked her why she wanted to get married. He felt that she was too young for that. But Kajol was firm in her decision. She clarified that she had worked for 10 years, and she wanted to make this decision, she was ready for marriage. Her dad didn’t talk to her for a week. That period was tough for her, as if an earthquake happened. But eventually he agreed.
It is generally said that after marriage, an actress no longer remains desirable. But Kajol completely disagreed with the statement. She said, “This tag is in women’s heads and not in the public’s heads.” She cited some examples to overcome that statement. Sharmila Tagore, Saira Banu, Hema Malini, all these actresses had their biggest hits after they got married. Those actresses kept working all the time. And hence she felt that she wasn’t a trendsetter in this particular subject.
Nowadays, it isn’t really a thing that actresses no longer get lead in films after marriage and Deepika Padukone, Katrina Kaif, Alia Bhatt, Kiara Advani are live examples of this.
