Sandeep Reddy Vanga directed, Animal movie gave recognition to many artists. The film’s success opened other platforms for the artists in the movie, like Saloni Batra, Anshul Chauhan, and others. These artists were already active in the industry but their continuity and struggle finally took a turn through Animal. One more person who came into the limelight after the Animal movie is Raj Shekhar. Lyricist Raj Shekhar has been working in the music industry for a decade. But his struggle has paid him back in the last few months. In an exclusive interview with Lehren, Raj Shekhar shared his musical journey.
Raj Shekhar has written lyrics for many well-known films like “Tanu Weds Manu”, “Hichki”, “Veere Di Wedding”, “Jabariya Jodi”, “Saand Ki Aankh” etc. During his initial phase, he worked with many people. He came in contact with music composer Vishal Mishra. Vishal Mishra’s name is associated with the music department of Sandeep Vanga’s other hit, “Kabir Singh”. As Vishal already worked with Sandeep and Raj Shekhar, he suggested Raj Shekhar meet Sandeep Vanga during the production of Animal, and this is how he got the opportunity to work under such a big banner.
Raj Shekhar has written two songs for Animal, “Papa Meri Jaan” and “Pehle Bhi Mein”. He talked about how difficult it was to write Papa Meri Jaan. He said that this song was very personal, and the soul of the movie lies in this song as it depicts the relation between father and son. He mentioned that Papa Meri Jaan isn’t the crowd’s song. There are so many contrasting feelings in the song: hope and disappointment, love and anger. And thus, it was challenging for Raj Shekhar to incorporate all these emotions into one song.
