Exclusive: Bijay Anand Reveals Why He Didn’t Sign Big Films After Shershaah

Actor Bijay Anand reveals why he did not exploit the opportunities after the success of Shershaah and the reason behind rejecting a big offer.

Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani starrer ‘Shershaah’ turned out to be a major success this year. The film received rave reviews from the audience and critics. On 31 August 2021, Amazon stated that ‘Shershaah’ had become the most-watched Indian film on the platform. It also turned out to be the best film of Sidharth’s career so far.

The film’s success opened many doors of opportunities for everyone associated with the film. Actor Bijay Anand, who played the role of Kiara Advani’s father in the film was also offered many lucrative offers after the film’s success. However, he says that he is not accepting most offers.

During our exclusive conversation with him, Bijay Anand said, “Yes, I am getting many calls after Shershaah. But I am at my Yoga centre as I teach Yoga also. I like to live here. I dedicate fours hours every day to gardening and I like it a lot. I feel uncomfortable going to the city. So, I haven’t exploited the opportunities of Shershaah because honestly, I act in films as a hobby. I don’t like to call acting my profession. I do a film only if I really like the role or the shooting location. I had once rejected a good offer because they wanted to shoot in Toronto and I didn’t want to go. The film’s location was later changed to Cape Town and when they called me again, I accepted the offer. I am talking about my role as Sunny Leone’s father in her biopic. So, the conclusion is that I don’t do things I don’t like.”

“I also seek respect and I can’t compromise with that. I don’t aim at working with big banners who can’t respect me,” he concluded.

Giving a piece of advice to young artists, Bijay Anand said, “Work hard. But don’t put all your eggs in one basket. Because your life will be ruined if the basket breaks. When I started acting 30 years ago, I had a painting business simultaneously. So, one needs to plan a parallel profession. A young actor needs to have a backup plan. So that you can live your life at your own terms.”

Bijay Anand was recently seen in Amazon Prime’s latest release ‘Dybbuk’ starring Emraan Hashmi in lead. He will also be seen playing the role of Lord Brahma in ‘Adipurush’ that features Prabhas, Saif Ali Khan and Kriti Sanon. Bijay Anand says that he has already wrapped up his part in the film.
