Veteran actress Saira Banu remembered her late husband Dilip Kumar as the 11th October of this year marked 57 years of their marriage. In 1966, 22-year-old Saira Banu married the man of her dreams, who was 44 at that time. The age gap between both didn’t matter as they knew that their union was to last forever.
Though Dilip Kumar passed away in 2021 but Saira lives on with her beautiful memories of the late actor. On 11th October, she took to her social media and shared an unseen clip of her precious wedding day moments along with a heartfelt note that touched the hearts of many.
Reflecting on what it was like to be married to the iconic Dilip Kumar, often referred to as the ‘SHAHENSHAH,’ she wrote, “People have often asked me…What was it like to be married to Dilip Kumar Sahib…the ‘SHAHENSHAH’ and I always told them, It felt “Like Sharing a Throne without having to slog for it!”. It’s a real Cinderella Story! It isn’t every day that a girl is lucky enough to be married to the man of her dreams. It would be too difficult to enlarge on this… my life with him. It would take pages and pages. In fact a book.”

Saira Banu went on to illuminate the multifaceted personality of Dilip Kumar, describing him not only as a cinematic legend but also as a great human being with an insatiable curiosity about the world. His interests ranged from Urdu and Persian poetry to anthropology, international affairs, botany, and sports. He was, in her words, “a book you can never stop reading because you discover a new page every day.”
