Asha Parekh Slams The Kashmir Files Makers For Minting Money & Not Helping Kashmiri Hindus

Asha Parekh takes a dig at the makers of "The Kashmir Files" for not donating a portion of the box office collections to Kashmiri Hindus.

Veteran actress Asha Parekh recently voiced her concerns regarding the hit 2022 film “The Kashmir Files,” directed by Vivek Agnihotri. In an interview with CNBC Awaaz, she criticized the film’s makers for not contributing a portion of their earnings to support Hindus living in Jammu and Kashmir, who she mentioned are facing challenges such as a lack of access to water and electricity.

When asked about her thoughts on “controversial” films like “The Kashmir Files” and “The Kerala Story (2023),” both of which performed well at the box office, Asha Parekh inquired about the impact of these films. She stated, “I haven’t seen these films, so I can’t comment on the controversies surrounding them. But if people enjoy watching these films, then they should watch.”

Asha Parekh went on to discuss “The Kashmir Files” and its substantial box office success. She remarked, “People watched ‘The Kashmir Files.’ I want to make a slightly controversial statement. The film’s producers earned Rs 400 crore. So how much did they donate to help Hindu Kashmiris living in Jammu, who lack access to water and electricity? They earned money; what about the share of the distributors and others? If they made Rs 200 crore out of the Rs 400 crore collection, couldn’t they have donated at least Rs 50 crore to assist Kashmiri Hindus?”

“The Kashmir Files,” directed by Vivek Agnihotri and produced by Vivek in collaboration with Abhishek Agarwal Arts and Zee Studio, features an ensemble cast including Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Puneet Issar, Darshan Kumar, Prakash Belawadi, Mrinal Kulkarni, and Chinmay Mandlekar. The film is based on true events during the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley around 1990.
