Asha Bhosle Reveals Nobody Would Have Given Her Work If She Had Sung Like Her Late Sister, Lata Mangeshkar

Asha Bhosle mentioned that after singing songs like “Eena Meena Deeka,” people recognized her versatility in singing various styles. She could handle songs from different composers like Madan Mohan, Shankar Jaikishen, SD Burman, and RD Burman. Listening to English songs in Kolhapur taught her techniques like voice vibration and accurate pitch, enhancing her singing skills.

Asha Bhosle wanted to establish a unique identity distinct from her sister Lata Mangeshkar. She knows that nobody would have given her work if she had sung like her. She realised this at the very beginning of her career, which is why she explored diverse song genres and modified her voice. She deliberately made her voice sharper in contrast to Lata’s softer singing, understanding that singing like her sister’s approach wouldn’t work for her.
