Amitabh Bachchan is renowned for his composure and poise in the industry, but there have been instances when the actor lost his temper completely after an interview with esteemed journalist Karan Thapar.
In his book titled “Devil’s Advocate: The Untold Story” by Karan Thapar, it’s revealed that a planned 50-minute interview to mark the legendary Silsila actor’s 50th birthday took an unexpected turn. During the interview, Karan questioned him about his alleged romantic involvements with Parveen Babi and Rekha.
Karan writes in his book, “They say you’ve had an affair with Parveen Babi. Is there any truth to that story?” Thapar asked. To this, Big B replied, “No. I have also read such stories. They are not true. But I can’t stop magazines from writing this sort of stuff.”
“What about Rekha?” Thapar inquired further, and Amitabh responded, “No, not even with her.” Thapar then turned to Jaya and asked if she believed him, to which the composed Jaya replied, “I always believe my husband.”
Thapar recounts that after the interview concluded, Amitabh invited them to stay for lunch. However, as they were eating, Amitabh’s temper flared in a surprising manner towards Jaya.
When Jaya offered him some rice, he retorted, “You know I never eat rice. Why are you offering me something I never have?” Jaya attempted to explain that she was offering rice because the rotis were still being prepared. In response, Amitabh lashed out once more, saying, “I don’t want rice! I never have rice, and you know that.”
He continued, “I’m not complaining that the rotis haven’t come, but stop offering me rice instead. I’ve said I don’t want rice, and I’m happy to wait for the rotis. Can’t you understand that? What’s the matter with you? Why can’t you just listen to what I’m saying?”
Following this exchange, Jaya left the room and did not return. Eventually, the rotis were served, but Karan and his crew found their appetite diminished after the heated incident and could only eat what was left on their plates.
