Rani Mukerji Opens Up About Suffering Miscarriage, Says ‘I Lost The Baby After Five Months Of Pregnancy’

This Happened During The Covid-19 Pandemic In 2020, And She Didn't Want To Share It With Anyone To Avoid It Being Perceived As A Promotional Tactic

Rani Mukerji recently spoke about a tragic incident that deeply affected her. The actress, who was at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, shared her personal loss that occurred during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. She also explained that she refrained from sharing her story before the release of her film “Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway” to avoid it being perceived as a promotional strategy.

Rani Mukerji stated, “Perhaps this is the first time I am revealing this because in today’s world, every aspect of your life becomes a topic of public discussion, often used as a means to generate attention for your film. So, during the film’s promotion, I didn’t mention this, as it could have been misunderstood as exploiting a personal experience to boost the film’s promotion… This happened around the time Covid-19 pandemic, in 2020. Towards the end of 2020, I became pregnant with my second child, and unfortunately, I lost the baby after five months of pregnancy.”

She went on to share that Nikhil Advani, one of the producers of “Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway,” contacted her within 10 days of her miscarriage in 2020. Rani said, “Nikhil (Advani) probably called me around 10 days after my loss. He narrated the story to me, and I immediately connected with it—not that one needs to go through the loss of a child to understand the emotions, but sometimes a film coincides with a personal experience that allows you to resonate with it instantly. When I heard the story, I was taken aback. I never imagined that an Indian family in a country like Norway would have to endure what was portrayed in the film.”

Speaking about her movie “Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway,” which was released on March 17, Rani Mukerji mentioned that it features Neena Gupta, Jim Sarbh, Anirban Bhattacharya, and others. The film is directed by Ashima Chibber.
