    Apple patents tool to let users take group selfies while maintaining social distance

    Apple has been granted a patent for software that can generate "synthetic group selfies", which could let people take group selfies even when practising social distancing. As per its application, an Apple device user would invite others to participate in a selfie, and the software would arrange them together in a single image.

    Google Messages working on end-to-end encryption for RCS texts

    Google is working on adding end-to-end encryption on Rich Communication Service (RCS) conversations in Google Messages, reports said. Both sender and receiver may need to use Google Messages app and have a strong internet connection otherwise the text would go as an SMS.

    Apple buys virtual reality event startup NextVR reportedly for $100 million

    Apple has acquired US-based virtual reality startup NextVR, reportedly for around $100 million. The startup specialises in recording live events like sports matches to be experienced in VR. Earlier, Apple was said to be working on a pair of augmented reality glasses as well as a headset.

    System created that can produce electricity for 100 LED bulbs from a raindrop

    Researchers have made a transistor-style generator that can produce high voltage from raindrops. The generator can produce 140V or enough to light up 100 LED bulbs from a single drop.

    YouTube Reveals Revenue for First Time: $15.1 Billion in 2019

    Google's parent company Alphabet has posted revenues of $162 billion in 2019, up nearly 18% from its $137 billion revenues in the preceding year. For the first time, Alphabet also disclosed the earnings of its video streaming platform YouTube, which generated $15.1 billion in 2019 by hosting advertisements.

    Facebook trains AI robot to navigate ‘without a map’

    Facebook has developed a reinforcement learning algorithm which it claims lets a robot find its way in an unfamiliar environment "without using a map". The algorithm uses a depth-sensing camera, GPS and compass to get a robot to its goal with a "success rate of 99.9%".
