2. Ponniyin Selvan
Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan is yet another film which made history in the Tamil film industry. Starring an ensemble cast including Aishwarya Rai, Trisha Krishnan, Vikram and others the periodical drama ran exceptionally well at the box office making a worldwide collection of 510.8cr. The film ranks second highest grossing film in Tamil movie industry.
3. Vikram
Just like Mani Ratnam’s film Ponniyin Selvan, Lokesh Kanagaraj’s action-thriller film Vikram starring Kamal Haasan, Fahadh Faasil and Vijay Sethupathi was yet another major blockbuster hit released in 2022. The film made an exception run at the box office with a worldwide collection of 440.5cr. The film ranks as the third highest grossing Tamil film.
4. Ponniyin Selvan Part 2
Ponniyin Selvan 2 which was merely released in 2023 became the 4th most-highest grossing Tamil film. After a successful part 1 the second installment of the film also became the highest grosser. While the first installment made 510cr globally the second installment grossed around 345.8cr globally.
5. Kabali
Directed by Pa. Ranjith, Kabali is a 2016 released action-drama film starring Rajinikanth in main role alongside with Radhika Apte, Dhansika, Winston Chao, Kishore, Dinesh, Kalaiyarasan and John Vijay in supporting roles. The film became a blockbuster hit of 2016 with a global box office collection of 315.8cr. It ranks as the fifth highest grossing Tamil film.
