Manish Chaudhari, who recently did successful shows of his directorial debut play ‘Antataha’ at Prithvi theatre has his noticeable mark in the film industry. He started with theatre and then joined films and television. Manish Chaudhari is popular for his ventures like ‘Powder’, a crime investigative series, ‘Rocket Singh’, ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’ and many others. As he has a theatre background, his style of preparing for any role is detailed and practical. In an exclusive conversation with Lehren, the actor talked about how he had prepared for Rocket Singh and Powder.

In the movie ‘Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year’, Manish Chaudhari played the character of Sunil Puri. Jaideep Sahani wrote the film and has some personal touch to it. Before the production, Manish was told to meet a person who runs a company, and he spent 4 days with that fellow. When he left his office, he realised that the person wasn’t Sunil Puri. In fact, it was Ranbir Kapoor’s character of Rocket Singh. So then he behaved completely the opposite of what he learned from that person in those four days. Though the film was a box office flop, it received critical appreciation from many.

Manish Chaudhari was a significant part of ‘Powder’, a crime television series released in 2010. He portrayed the role of Usmaan Ali Malik, Narcotics Control Bureau superintendent. During the prep of the series, he met one of the superintendents of NCB. He learned about weaponry, their strategies. He also visited the special NCB court in Kala Ghoda, Mumbai, along with that officer. There he understood the responsibility of his character and the way to portray it.

The Baazaar actor runs a theatre company named ‘The Yellow Door Theatre’ where they work in a revised manner. Currently, they are doing shows of a play directed by him, ‘Antataha’. He was also seen in the action movie ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ starring Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff. Watch the entire podcast here.
