The year 2022 is almost at the end. And without any doubt, the year 2022 has been one of the most remarkable years for the South film industry. More than Bollywood movies, the South film industry gave several hit and blockbuster hits this year. From RRR, and KGF 2 to Ponniyin Selvan here are the top South blockbuster hit movies of 2022, take a look-
- RRR
Starring Ram Charan and Jr NTR, SS Rajamouli’s directorial RRR is one of the biggest hits of the year 2022. Apart from Ram Charan and Jr NTR the film also featured Bollywood actors Ajay Devgn and Alia Bhatt. The film collected 1144 crores worldwide till now. RRR became a gigantic success not only in the domestic market but also overseas.
2. KGF 2
Directed by Prashanth Neel KGF 2 is yet another biggest hit of the year 2022. The film featured South actor Yash, Srinidhi Shetty, and Bollywood actors Sanjay Dutt and Raveena Tandon. KGF 2 is the second installment of the film which is expected to have a third installment as well. The Kannada film was made on a budget of 1000cr, till now KGF 2 has made around ₹1,200–1,250 crore worldwide.
3. Kantara
Another recent blockbuster of the year remains Rishab Shetty’s directorial “Kantara”. The film was released on 30 September and till now film has managed to earn around 406.75 crores globally. Apart from directing Rishab Shetty also played the lead role in the film. The film also starred Sapthami Gowda. The film is now streaming on the OTT platform Amazon Prime.
4. Ponniyin Selvan
Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan is yet another biggest hit of the year. The Tamil film featured major big names from both Bollywood and the South industry. Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, South actor Vikram, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Trisha Krishnan, Karthi, and Jayam Ravi played the lead roles in the film. The film made around 482.70 globally and is now streaming on the OTT platform Amazon Prime Video.
5. Pushpa
Last but not least is Sukumar’s directorial Pushpa starring South superstar Allu Arjun and actress Rashmika Mandanna in the lead roles. Apart from them the film also stars Fahadh Faasil as the antagonist. The film grossed around ₹350.3–₹373cr at the box office. The second installment of the film is currently in making and is expected to release in 2023.
